Author of historical novels to visit West End library

The Western Pocono Community Library will hold a book presentation with author Gloria Waldron Hukle at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 5. The focus will be on her recent historical novel, "Threads An American Tapestry." This is the third book in the Waldron Series Historical Novels.

The novel opens with a prayer by Mary Stuart (1542-1587), aka Mary Queen of Scots, and will be easily recognizable by Palmerton Concourse Club members, who introduced Hukle to the beautiful supplication many years ago. The long-dead Catholic queen helped form her character, Margaret Vandenberg, the early 18th century daughter of a prosperous Dutch immigrant and his Native American wife living along the Hudson River midway between Manhattan and Albany, New York. As all early settlers dreamed of peace and prosperity, Margaret and her brother John's differing vision for the great northern farm left to them by their father prompts an unexpected catalyst that will reroute their lives and the lives of their progeny forever. Many Pennsylvania influences can be spotted within the book.Hukle says there is a special place in her heart for Polk and Carbon County. Hukle currently lives in Averill Park, New York. All Hukle titles are now available in hardcover, softcover and as e-books.The library is at 131 Pilgrim Way in Brodheadsville.
