Mahoning Township Woman cited for filing false child abuse report

Mahoning Township Police have charged Kaitlin Stahler, 28, of Mahoning Township with two counts of false reports to law enforcement and false reports of child abuse.

Chief of Police Audie Mertz said on Aug. 28, police received a report that a 5-year-old boy was assaulted.Police said they were told that the person responsible for the assault was identified as the child's uncle, Daniel Sterling Stahler Jr., 31, of Mahoning Township. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment.Information provided to police by the child's mother, Kaitlin Stahler, was that the child suffered a fracture to the eye socket.Mertz said police obtained medical records by a court order.The records showed that while the child was injured in the assault, the injuries were not as serious as represented by Kaitlin Stahler.Police said the child was never diagnosed with any type of fracture.A preliminary hearing for Kaitlin Stahler is scheduled for Nov. 26 before District Judge Edward Lewis.The charge of aggravated assault against Daniel Stahler Jr. was withdrawn, but the simple assault and harassment charges have been forwarded to Carbon County Court.
