Judge denies sentence appeal in wedding reception thefts

NORRISTOWN (AP) A judge has declined to reduce the sentence of a man police called a wedding crasher thief who stole cash and gifts from wedding receptions in Pennsylvania.

Thirty-seven year-old Joseph Franzone Jr. of Bridgeport was sentenced to four to eight years after pleading guilty in March in Montgomery County to theft and attempted theft. The (Pottstown) Mercury reports that he appealed the sentence, arguing that it was excessive and harsh under the circumstances.Judge Wendy Demchick-Alloy denied the motion Tuesday without elaborating on her reasons.Prosecutors said Franzone stole thousands of dollars in wedding gifts in the summer of 2013 in Montgomery and Lancaster counties and tried to steal gifts in Chester County.Defense attorney Sharon Meisler said her client's prescription drug habit fueled the thefts.
