Deer blamed for Carbon crash

A deer was blamed for a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 11:19 a.m. on Oct. 24 along Spring Mountain Road, in Packer Township.

State police at Hazleton said Joseph A. Komar, 20, of Weatherly, was driving a 2014 Ford Transit Connect truck southbound when he observed a deer enter the road in front of him.He swerved to avoid the animal and traveled onto the shoulder for about 20 feet. He continued on the berm for another 46 feet before striking a tree with the front passenger side.After impact the vehicle continued along the berm for another 33 feet before striking a second tree with the same side of the vehicle.After that impact the vehicle continued south for another 15 feet before coming to final rest against another tree on the passenger side front end fender.Komar sustained a cut to his right hand but refused medical attention. The Ford had to be towed from the scene.
