Palmerton band to perform at Christmas in the Park

The Holiday Homecoming Chorus of Palmerton has staged its next appearance.

Back by popular demand, the band will perform at the second annual Christmas in the Park event in Palmerton.Christmas in the Park will be held Dec. 6 in the borough park. The band's performance will precede the lighting of the trees.Practices are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, 2 p.m. Nov. 23 and 7 p.m. Dec. 5 at First United Church of Christ, 457 Delaware Ave., Palmerton.Joe Plechavy will direct the chorus and extends a warm invitation to anyone who would like to sing with the group.Anyone with questions should contact Darlene Nothstein at 610-826-7339 or 610-737-1559.Created by the Palmerton Holiday Lighting Committee, the event debuted last year and featured 48 decorated trees from members of the community, which lined the walkways of the park that were lit and decorated by the sponsor.Santa arrived via firetruck, and each child who visited with him received a goody bag, while free cookies and hot chocolate were served to those who waited in line. There were also horse and wagon rides, caroling in the park, vocal selections and audience participation. Vendors sold a variety of items, including crafts.As a special tribute, Oliver Solt, 100, of Bowmanstown, and Marguerite Shupp Haydt, 97, of Palmerton, gave the directive to "light up the night."With the flick of a switch, each of the beautifully decorated trees then lit up.Dates to decorate the trees for this year's event are Nov. 30 through Dec. 4. All trees are to be undecorated from Jan. 7-10. The committee will dispose of the tree and the tree stand.Anyone who would like to set up as a vendor should contact Marj Federanich at 610-826-5777.
