Panther Valley stadium won't be available for football playoffs

Panther Valley School Board said Thursday its stadium won't be available for any District XI football playoffs.

Not that the district has been asked to host the playoffs. Such decisions by the district haven't been made yet.Anthony DeMarco, chairman of the athletic and activities committee, said AD Kristen Black recommended making the field available, but that George Krajnak, maintenance supervisor, needs time to prepare the field for the winter."We put feelers out and the Athletic Committee felt it was ok," DeMarco said.The board deadlocked, 4-4, on the vote, with Irene Genther, Roy "Mickey" Angst, Brian Dolena, and John Williams voting in favor. Opposed were DeMarco, Board President Jeff Markovich, Dan Heaney, and Bill Hunsicker. Michelle Markovich was absent.In other business related to athletics:• Candace Olson was hired as head softball coach at a salary of $2,600.• The board accepted the resignation of Black as track and field coach effective immediately. She will continue to be the Athletic Director.• Hired to work for winter sports events, at the rate of $25 each, are Ann Marie Williams, tickets; Brandon Heffelfinger, Robert Thomas, Mary Louise Gauronsky and Ted Gauronsky, scorebook keepers; Rich Gilbert, Melissa Gilbert, and Dick McIntyre, clock; and Richard Evanko, Matt Davis, and John Horvath, subs.• Pat Crampsie will serve as head boys basektball coach at a salary of $3,750. Assistants are Shawn Midas, $2,100; Andrew Michalick, $1,400; Damian Lewis, $1,225; and Ryan Eidle, $1,200.Volunteers are Erika Davis, Mark Lazar, Charles DePuy, James Filer, Ken Miller, Keith Gogal, and Richard Evanko.• Brad Hurley was named girls basketball coach at a salary of $3,150. His assistant is Mike Chapman at a pay of $2,100. Volunteers are Jim Barron and Steve Haldeman.• The wrestling coach is Tim Robb at a salary of $4,950. He will be assisted by Ed Kennedy and Rich Bower, $1,575 each, and Colin Hedash, $1,400 (pending). A volunteer is Mike O'Donnell.• Hallie Seiwell is cheerleading coach and will be paid $1,700. Assistants are Heidi Seiwell, $775, and Beth Shreffler, $250. Volunteers are Kasey Gray and Storm Hughes.• The board granted permssion to the JROTC Booster Club to have events at sporting activities as long as they don't interfere with fundraising by other booster clubs.
