Historical societyThe next meeting of the Nesquehoning Historical Society will be 6 p.m. Tuesday at the borough hall, 114 W. Catawissa Street.Guest speaker will be John C. LaRizzio, author of "Hey, Milkman!" The book is about his experiences as a milk delivery person in Nesquehoning.LaRizzio grew up in Nesquehoning in the '60s and had a milk delivery route for five years while he was attending high school and college. He wrote "Hey, Milkman!" to share his memories and the insights about life that he gained through his daily work.He graduated from Penn State University with a degree in engineering. His 35-year career in engineering and management took him around the world, but he never forgot those early mornings from his youth and the customers who were eagerly awaiting a delivery of fresh milk.The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.LaRizzio will also bring some special artifacts for audience members to viewLansfordGolden AgersThe Oct. 13 meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers opened with Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of "God Bless America."Ruth Ann Feane read appropriate readings and old favorite recipes for seniors. A moment of silence was held for two recently deceased members: Nancy Gould and Daniel Barno.President Irene Hudasky, gave a report on upcoming trips. The annual Christmas party will be held Nov. 30 at La Dolce Casa in Tamaqua beginning at 1 p.m. Names are being taken for those wishing to attend.The next meeting will be 1 p.m. Monday.Thank you to donorsThe Miller-Keystone Blood Center along with St. Katharine Drexel Church in Lansford would like to thank the 42 people who donated blood during a recent drive.The next drive at St. Katharine's will be held in February.Medicare enrollment assistance for seniorsThe Panther Valley Public Library, at 117 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, will be assisting seniors during open enrollment for Medicare part C & D every Wednesday through Dec. 7 during regular library hours.Counselors will assist consumers in finding a drug plan or a Medicare Part C plan. This service is available by appointment.Call the library to set up an appointment at 570-645-3780.Preschool story hourThe Panther Valley Public Library, 117 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, offers a free preschool story hour from 9:30-10:30 a.m. every Tuesday.Stories, snacks and activities are provided for the children.
