The Tamaqua Community Arts Center will host a meet-and-greet session for photographer Tom Applegate from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.Applegate grew up in Tamaqua and developed a love of horror movies. With camera in hand, he began taking glamour, gothic and steampunk-style photos before branching out into landscapes and macro photography. His current favorite art style is "chromakey," where he creates fantasy worlds through the use of backdrops.His newest exhibit, "Darker Side of the Lens," is perfect for Halloween.The art center is located at 125 Pine St., Tamaqua. The public is welcome and there are no admission fees.Rush-Ryan seniorsThe Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Oct. 14 at the Ryan Township Fire Company in Barnesville with 48 members in attendance.The business session was conducted by President Eleanor Schmerfeld. Kathleen Valentine provided an inspirational reading, "October."Treasurer Shirley Becker and secretary Ruthann Feane provided their reports. Jane Springer and Diane Gould were added to the sick list.Birthday greetings were offered to Louise Horn, and warm welcomes were extended to new members Carol and David Faust.Dec. 9 was selected as the date for the annual Christmas party and a trip is being planned to Penn's Peak next May 12 for an Elvis tribute show.The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at the fire company.Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.TEPTOThe Tamaqua Elementary Parent Teacher Organization is conducting its annual membership drive, with a deadline of Oct. 31. Membership is open to adult family members of students in the Tamaqua and Rush elementary schools.Owl Creek hayridesThe Owl Creek Reservoir Commission is planning its annual Fall Foliage celebration, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. The popular hayrides have returned with a bit of a twist this year. The commission is sponsoring a contest for its Saturday night Haunted Hayride. The winning "haunting" groups and individuals will be eligible for cash prizes.For more information, call 570-668-5066.St. Peter's UnionSunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. This week's service will include the observance of Reformation Sunday. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 11:30 a.m.; the Sunday school harvest party will be held from 4 to 7 p.m.; Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cub Scouts and Cadets will meet at 6 p.m.Activities for next week include: Monday, Bible study meets at 6 p.m., church board meeting at 6 p.m.; Tuesday, prayer group at 5 p.m.; Thursday, play practice at 6 p.m., junior choir practice at 7 p.m. and senior choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.The Nov. 2 worship service will include Holy Communion. Instead of Sunday school, there will be a time of fellowship at 10:15 a.m., sponsored by the Sunday school teachers.Coffee 'N CreedThe Tamaqua Ministerium will sponsor a Coffee 'N Creed time of fellowship from 2 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 28 at Vonz Restaurant at the Tamaqua Train Station.The event will provide an opportunity for free and open conversation on God, faith and church.The public is welcome to attend.
