Senior center to promote investment fraud awareness

The Mahanoy City Senior Community Center wants to help people avoid investment fraud.

For that reason, the center, the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities, the state attorney general's office, Independent Living Services, and AARP are presenting a free public "Scam Jam" from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 30 at the center, located at 138 W. Centre St."People may join us for a continental breakfast at this non-commercial, financial educational event," says Mary Agnes DiCasimirro, center manager."The focus is on awareness and avoidance of investment fraud. No financial products or services are being marketed."Speakers will include representatives of the two state departments, the Social Security administration and AARP.Space is limited at the event, which will include "investment fraud bingo with prizes."To register, which is required, people should call 888-837-4235. In addition to breakfast and refreshments, participants will receive free investor-education materials.The senior community center is operated by Diakon Community Services under contract with the Schuylkill County Office of Senior Services.
