Tamaqua woman admits role in meth lab in Lansford

A Tamaqua woman admitted in Carbon County court on Tuesday to her part in the operation of a methamphetamine lab in Lansford.

She is the fifth and final defendant in the case to enter a guilty plea.Jackie Slaven, 38, pleaded before Judge Joseph J. Matika to one count each of criminal conspiracy-operating a methamphetamine lab, hindering apprehension and endangering the welfare of children. The charges stem from a May 19, 2013, incident in Lansford. On that date borough firefighters, police and other emergency responders went to 117 E. Patterson St., where there was an explosion causing a fire by the suspects operating a meth lab.The day before the incident Slaven was told by police they had a warrant for one of the other suspects and told her if she saw him to report it to police. She admitted knowing of the warrant but not turning in the suspect, Kyle Frantz. The endangering charge stems from the fact that Crostley's infant son was inside the home at the time of the explosion and fire.Others involved in the case, who previously pleaded guilty, were Kyle M. Frantz, 20, of Tamaqua, and formerly of Lansford; Scott R. Frantz, 46, of Scranton; Tyler Matthew Strawdinger, 21, of Stroudsburg; and Kendra Crostley, 20, of Lansford. All have been sentenced to either state or county prison or probation terms.Slaven has pleaded guilty to drug charges in Schuylkill County and was sentenced to serve three to six years in a state prison.Matika deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report. The plea agreement calls for Matika to impose the same term as Schuylkill but run it concurrent.Matika said he wantedto review the PSI before he decides if he will go along with the concurrentsentence or impose adifferent sentence.
