Zion UCC seeks voices to perform in Cantata

Zion UCC, Second and Iron streets, Lehighton is again hosting its ecumenical Christmas concert at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 30.

The cantata was created by former Zion UCC Director of Music Paul R. Smith 40 years ago. The current Director of Music, Brad Cressley, has continued the tradition.Last year's cantata featured 80 voices which represented 22 different chuches and organizations.Cressley said, "This year we hope to have a choir of 100 strong and the group is once again looking for vocalists to join the cantata."Members come from various church choirs throughout the area but it is not necessary for the singers to be a member of a church choir. Anyone high school age and above who enjoys singing is invited to join.The choir will once again be joined by the Zion Festival orchestra.This year's cantata, "On This Very Night," is a contemporary cantata with both familiar and brand new songs.The rehearsal schedule is as follows:Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 8:30 p.m.Thursday, Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m.Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m.Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 8:30 p.m.Sunday, Nov. 16 at 2:30 p.m. (Practice with orchestra)Thursday, Nov. 20 at 6:30 p.m.Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 6:30 p.m.Sunday, Nov. 30 at 2:30 p.m. (Performance follows at 7:30 p.m.)Cressley said attendance at all rehearsals is appreciated but not necessary to join.
