Route change a success for Palmerton parade

At times on Sunday, there was just enough of a bite in the air to remind paradegoers that cold weather is on the horizon.

Fortunately, the ample doses of adrenaline on display were enough to warm up the audience during the 23rd annual Palmerton Halloween Parade on Sunday.Event chairwoman Susie Arner said the parade route change was a success. The parade started by going up Seventh Street, turning left onto Lafayette Avenue, and then down to Second Street. From there, it wound through Franklin Avenue to Third Street and Delaware Avenue, finishing on Seventh Street.Arner said the change in direction placed parade participants on Delaware Avenue, which is better lit as evening approached.Arner said the switch in direction went so well that it will remain in place for next year's parade."The parade was again a huge success thanks to the participants with their awesome entries," Arner said."It continues to grow each year."The four-division parade was led by the Palmerton Police Department, with Mayor Chris Olivia; the Palmerton United Veterans Organization Color Guard; the parade grand marshal, which was the UVO, and Palmerton Borough Council.Division I consisted of the Palmerton Fire Department; Palmerton High School Varsity Cheerleaders; Palmerton Junior High Cheerleaders; PHS Homecoming King and Queen Matthew Semmel and Eliza Good; Palmerton High School Football Team; Girl Scout Troop 301; Palmerton Youth Wrestling; Palmerton Hungarian Club Auxiliary; the Village at Palmerton; Cub Pack 41; Holy Trinity Lutheran Church; Palmerton Booster Club 100 lb cheering; and Palmerton Ambulance.Participants in Division 2 were the West End Fire Department of Palmerton; S.S.
