Hanover cruises past Panther Valley

HANOVER TWP - When a team establishes the line of scrimmage, the rest of the offense normally falls in place right behind it.

Hanover Area was dominant on both sides of theball as it rolled over Panther Valley in a non-league contest, 34-0.The Hawkeyes offensive line did whatever they wanted against the Panther front seven. The strong play up front opened up running lanes all night for Hanover star tailback Isaiah Taylor and company. Taylor racked up 198 yards and a hat trick of scores on just 15 carries."We stressed all week that he (Taylor) had to come out tonight and hit the holes hard," explained Hanover head coach Ron Hummer. "He had some plays where he danced around, but when he hit hard, he was dynamite. I have to give credit to the offensive line because they absolutely opened it up for him."The successful run game opened up the outside for Hawkeye quarterback Jake Peters who compiled 151 yards and hit four different receivers in the contest.Hanover was equally impressive defensively, as it held the Panthers to only 17 yards of total offense and just three first downs. The Panthers surely didn't help their own cause throwing four interceptions that contributed to their six total turnovers."We watched them on film and we thought we had an edge on them up front," said Panther Valley head coach Matt Davis. "That wasn't the case and we got completely dominated in the trenches and they took it to us."Despite committing eight penalties, the Hawkeyes came out of the tunnel rolling on all cylinders scoring 28 first half points and accumulating 21 first downs throughout the game.Hummer said, "I think the kids came out ready to play. They don't quit no matter what. The kids play hard every down. Sometimes we will make mistakes, but they're still young boys and nobody is perfect. They're a very close-knit team and that's what is very nice about this group. They have fun together."The positive Panther play came in the second half. Anthony Vavra and Kyle Emmert picked off Peters on Panther Valley's first two defensive possessions. The takeaways resulted in the Panthers having possession deep in Hawkeye territory, but Davis's squad couldn't sustain any type of drive. Thus being said, the Panthers were only outscored by a 6-0 margin in the final two periods."We were happy with the defensive effort in the second half," Davis noted. "We can coach effort, but at the same time it has to be on every single play and not just here and there. Things kind of snowballed on us."After a roller coaster type first half of the season, the Hawkeyes are now 5-3 overall and are in the hunt for post season action."We need to go over and fix some of our mistakes in practice this week," said Hummer. "It was a good game for us. We wanted to work on defense and the kids definitely showed up on that side of the ball. We have a big game next week and I'm excited for the rest of the season."
