Richard L. Nothstein of Palmerton was recognized on Thursday with the 2014 Carbon County Distinguished Citizen award, presented by North Valley District, Minsi Trails Council, BSA.

Nothstein, a graduate of Northern Arizona University with a bachelor of science in business administration and social science in 1959, and master of arts in economics in 1963, has received many awards and honors:• Gold Ax Award, Northern Arizona University (1959)• Outstanding Citizen Award, Palmerton Borough Council (2004)• Outstanding Citizen Award, Carbon County Chamber of Commerce (2006)• Award for Dedication and Support of our Nation's Veterans from Palmerton VFW and Palmerton American Legion (2008)• Freedom Team Salute Certificate of Appreciation from the U.S. Army (2008)• Palmerton Lion's Club Volunteer of the Year (2009)• Mauch Chunk Trust Company "Community Hero" (2009)• Certificate of Appreciation, American Legion, Carbon County Inter-Post Association of Pennsylvania (2010)• Joe and Marie Rolle "Spirit of Northern Arizona University Award," NAU Alumni Association (2011)• Pennsylvania Commendation Medal, authorized by Tom Corbett, for commendable service to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and presented by the PA Department of Military Affairs.
