Second woman dies in Monroe crash

A second elderly woman has died as the result of a three-vehicle crash on Monday morning in Monroe County.

Stroud Regional police said the accident took the lives of Jean Singlemann, 78, and Mae L. Rienstra, 76, both of East Stroudsburg. Singlemann was flown from the scene to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, where she was pronounced dead at 3:19 p.m. Reinstra died at the scene and was pronounced dead at 10:10 a.m. by county coroner Bob Allen.Lehigh County coroner Scott Grim said an autopsy revealed Singlemann died of multiple blunt-force injuries.Stroud police said they responded to a reported three-vehicle crash at 9:43 a.m. at the intersection of Route 209 and Shafers Schoolhouse Road in Stroud Township. The crash involved a tractor-trailer, pickup and car. The two victims were rear-seat passengers in the car.Police said the car slowed for a traffic light at the intersection and was struck in the rear by the tractor-trailer. The car and pickup sustained heavy rear-end damages while damages to the rig were termed minor.The names of three others injured in the crash were not available from police, who said their investigation is continuing. An accident reconstruction unit was summoned to the scene.
