JT, Tamaqua get girls soccer wins

Jim Thorpe and Tamaqua both ended their girls' soccer seasons in fine fashion, as they both notched shutout wins over non-league opponents over the weekend.

GIRLS SOCCERNativity-Jim ThorpeJim Thorpe finished its season in style by defeating Nativity 2-0 in the final game of the season.Adrian Brady scored one minute into the game off an assist from Nicole Reinhart to give her team the early lead. With a minute remaining in the first half, Jackie Condly scored on a break away to provide the Lady Olympians with some insurance.Alyssa Smith, Rebecca Cressman and Mo Jervier all tended goal and combined for the shutout, amassing eight saves.In the game, Thorpe outshot Nativity 14-8, as Allison Warren totalled 12 saves in the losing effort.Catasauqua-TamaquaTamaqua recorded a 6-0 shutout win over Catasauqua to end the season with the non-league victory.Morgan Boyle led the offensive attack with three goals and an assist for the Lady Raiders. Monica Shimko tallied three assists in the noteworthy performance, as well. Lynn Kistler, Hannah Zoba and Jasmine Goho all scored individual goals for the winners, to round out the scoring. Carly Sassaman recorded two saves in goal for Tamaqua for her fourth shutout of the season.CMVT-WeatherlyAfter a scoreless first half, Columbia Montour Vo Tech scored two second half goals to win 2-0 over Weatherly.Hannah Wohlforth scored first for the winners, while Kiara Connor followed closely afterward with an unassisted goal.Shannon Frye had 18 saves for the Lady Wreckers.FIELD HOCKEYCatasauqua-PalmertonPalmerton tangled with Catasauqua in a Colonial League field hockey contest with the Roughies scoring a 2-1 overtime win.Palmerton's Steph Brinker notched a goal in the first half to give her team 1-0 lead at the break. However, Morgan Meckes belted one in off an assist from Quinn Bachman to tie it up in the second half, forcing the extra session.In OT, Quinn Bachman scored the game-winner off a feed from Gabby Bachman.Both teams had eight shots on goal in the contest.BOYS SOCCERPine Grove-PalmertonDespite having a 1-0 lead at the intermission, Palmerton dropped a hard-fought, non-league decision to Pine Grove, 2-1.Carlos Merjirar put the Blue Bombers up early in the game, before Zach Tritt notched two unanswered goals for the Cardinals. He scored the game-winner with 13 seconds remaining.Rich Roselli totalled 10 saves for the Bombers, while his counterpart, Jason Soper stopped five goals for the winners.
