Former Lehighton resident killed in crash

A former Walnutport and Lehighton resident was killed late Monday night in South Carolina after a motorcycle accident.

Gary Donald Marshall, 45, of Grover, N.C., was traveling on Interstate 85 when his 2003 Honda motorcycle struck the back of a 2003 Ford pickup truck hauling a trailer, according to police.Investigators said the trailer did not have lights. Marshall, who was wearing a helmet, was traveling at a high rate of speed, they added.According to his obituary, Marshall formerly owned and operated Marshall’s Market in Lehighton and was working as a crew member for Harry Scott Racing in the NASCAR circuit at the time of his death.He was a life member of Lehigh Fire Co. #1, Lehighton, and a social member of the Andreas Sporting Club.Marshall moved to the Carolinas to pursue his dream of NASCAR involvement.He worked as a fireman, gas man, tire specialist and tire changer and formerly worked for the Robby Gordon Racing Team.His latest assignment was as a crew member to Justin Allgaier.Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Ovsak Funeral Home, 190 S. Fourth St., Lehighton, with the Reverend Nancy L. Moore officiating.Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday and 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
