Lehighton gets boys and girls soccer wins

Lehighton managed wins in both boys and girls soccer over the weekend.

BOYS SOCCERLehighton-PalmertonAfter holding on to a 1-0 halftime lead, Lehighton rattled off four more scores in the second half to defeat Palmerton 5-1 in this non-league showdown.Zach Christoff recorded two goals for the winners, while Joe Marks, Ben Cordova and Cole Christman all had a sole score.The Blue Bombers got their individual tally from Rio Kapur in the second half.Rich Roselli totalled 11 saves for the Bombers in goal, while Tyler Dietz and Greg Venuto combined for five saves for the Tribe.Tamaqua-Schuylkill HavenTied at halftime, Tamaqua got two more goals in the second half to pull out a 3-1 victory over Schuylkill Haven.Kristian Svenson began the game's scoring for the Hurricanes, only to see the Blue Raiders' Josh Delp deadlock it at the break. Delp gave his team the lead in the second half, before teammate Ben Miller added some insurance down the stretch.Both teams totalled eight shots on goal, with the Raiders' Hunter Banavage stopping seven.GIRLS SOCCERLehighton-TamaquaLehighton built a 3-0 lead in the first half and went on to defeat Tamaqua 5-2 in a Schuylkill League clash.Allison Andrew recorded four goals for the winners, while Rajah Quinones added the other score.Lynn Kistler scored a goal and added an assist for the Lady Blue Raiders, while Morgan Boyle also had a goal.Lehighton held a 27-15 advantage in shots, with Tamaqua's Carly Sassaman putting together 20 saves. Lehighton's Julia Frey saved seven for her squad in the winning effort.Weatherly-Schuylkill HavenSchuylkill Haven improved to 13-2 overall and 11-1 in the league with a 10-0 shutout over winless Weatherly.Rileigh Evitts and Kelsey Sisko both recorded hat tricks for the winners, while Alyssa Gerber, Keegan White, Taylor Felty and Sarah Donati all scored sole goals, as well.Haven held a 23-1 advantage in shots in the contest, that saw the Lady Wreckers' Shannon Frye had 11 saves.This was the Lady Hurricanes' fifth shutout in their last six games.Jim Thorpe-No. SchuylkillJim Thorpe scored early and often, as they ran away with this Schuylkill League game, 10-0.Rebecca Cressman led the Lady Olympians with a hat trick in the contest, while Meghann Principe, Brooke Cope, Maggie Holloway, Ruina Gentile, Autumn Cope, Ilse Hassler and Anna Beard all scored individual goals, as well. Autumn Cope also added an assist in the Olympian rout.Freshman Taylor Huth had a shutout in goal for the winners, as well.The winners held a 23-1 edge in shots on goal, as the Lady Spartans' Kaeli Quick stopped 13 shots on goal.PM East-Pleasant Vy.Taylor Caridi scored in the overtime session to lift Pocono Mountain East over Pleasant Valley in a battle of Eastern Pennsylvania Conference squads.Caridi scored off an assist from teammate Michelle DeHaven to record the game's only goal.Both teams amassed eight shots on goal, as the Lady Cardinals' Bryanna Vias stopped seven shots, with her counterpart Renee Milos recording six saves.VOLLEYBALLNorthwestern, Tamaqua-Pottsville Lady Tide TournamentThe Lady Tigers went 4-5 inpool play before falling to Chambersburg 25-22 in the quarterfinal round.Tamaqua, the only other local team in the Pottsville Lady Tide Tournament, went 0-9.Berks Catholic was the tourney champion by beating Chambersburg 25-12, 25-17.FIELD HOCKEYPM East-Pleasant Vy.Kalla Boden's goal in overtime helped lift Pleasant Valley to a 2-1 win over Pocono Mountain East.Borden scored her game-winner off a feed from teammate Shannon Lozier. Earlier on, Annie Butchkoski scored off an assist from Abby Roselli.Meanwhile, the Lady Cardinals got their sole score off a penalty stroke from Laura O'Malley.The Lady Bears held a 11-5 edge in shots on goal, along with a 13-10 advantage in corners.
