The final layer

TOP: Rollers and heavy equipment apply the final layer of macadam to the Tamaqua East Broad Street bridge Wednesday, as seen in this photo taken from the roof of the ABC Tamaqua High Rise building. RIGHT: The Route 209 bridge across the Little Schuylkill River reopened to traffic Thursday after being closed for 16 months. All of the original stone arches were salvaged. The bridge is believed to have been constructed about 1894. Earlier reports had stated 1904 as the date it was built, but early maps and lithographs show the triple stone arch bridge in place in the 1890s.
