A motorcycle lies in front of a Mahoning Township police vehicle Thursday morning in aparking lot along North First Street in Lehighton. According to scanner reports, Mahoning Township Police Chief Audie Mertz was attempting to stop the bike for a license plate violation at around 10:30 Thursday morning. Moments later Mertz radioed the communications center that the cyclist had run into his vehicle. Lehighton Ambulance was dispatched but themotorcycle driver refused treatment at the scene. Lehighton Police are investigating.
