Women's Resources hosts 5K run/walk

Women's Resources of Monroe County is asking for help in raising awareness about domestic violence and sexual assault.

They are seeking participants for the Run To End Violence 5K Run/Walk to be held Oct. 26 at the Pleasant Valley High School stadium in Brodheadsville. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and the race begins at 9 a.m. Register until Oct. 16 for a reduced registration fee.Women's Resources of Monroe County, 215 Main St., Stroudsburg, provides support to those seeking safety and sanctuary from violence and educate Society on how to end domestic and sexual violence for all women, children and men in the community.It has been the sole provider of safe, emergency shelter, 24-hour crisis hot line, supportive and crisis counseling, legal and medical advocacy, community outreach, and prevention education in Monroe County since 1978. The services are confidential and free and serve adult and child victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.Facts and figures for 2013:• 1,102 adults and children found hope and healing through free and confidential counseling• 1,776 crisis calls via the 24-hour hot line from 777 individuals seeking help and support• 199 adults received legal advocacy services, and 39 adults received medical advocacy services• 3,067 youth received prevention education through 88 programs• 607 adults participated in 25 community awareness programs• 1,050 community professionals received education through 10 training programs• 19 new volunteers completed the 69-hour counselor/advocate training• 3,652 hours of direct service were provided by volunteers.Contact Carol Andersen for more information at 570-424-2093, ext. 19 or email
