State troopers injured at manhunt scene

Two state troopers were hurt Wednesday night in an accident that happened in the area where authorities are searching for Eric Frein, who is accused of shooting to death a state trooper and wounding another on Sept. 12 at the Blooming Grove barracks in Pike County.

"A Medivac helicopter was requested for a medical assist for two PSP members due to non- life threatening injuries due to an accident. This is all the information we can release," said Trooper Connie Devens.

Scanner chatter indicated the troopers were hurt at about 8 p.m. in Barrett Township, where the search for Frein has been focused. According to unconfirmed Twitter reports, the troopers fell from a tree stand.

Police believe Frein, 31, of Canadensis, hid in the woods across from the barracks and, at 10:55 p.m. Sept. 12, shot Cpl. Bryon Dickson, 38, killing him, and seriously wounding Trooper Alex Douglass, 31.

Frein is a self-styled survivalist, expert marksman and fond of dressing in military gear and portraying soldiers.

Police earlier this week found two functional pipe bombs among other supplies they believe Frein hurriedly dropped as he fled from authorities.

Lt. Col. George Bivens on Tuesday said Frein is weakening, and making mistakes as he continues to elude police.

Among the items Frein has left behind are an AK-47 style firearm and ammunition, soiled diapers and empty packs of Serbian cigarettes.

The search area includes Barrett and Price townships.
