Woman charged in fatal crash

A Schuylkill County woman has been charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence stemming from a fatal crash in March.

State police at Frackville arrested Shirl Marie Mumie, 37, at her residence last week.Mumie was traveling east on Route 54 in Mahanoy Township at 12:30 a.m. on March 29 when her 1997 Chevrolet truck crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by James Hossler, 62, of Shenandoah.The crash killed Hossler, while Mumie was flown to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville with non-life-threatening injuries."Upon receiving all lab test results, a meeting was held with the Schuylkill County District Attorney Christine Holman and a warrant was issued," said trooper Michael J. Van Buskirk.In a press release issued Sunday, police did not report Mumie's blood-alcohol level at the time of testing.Other charges against Mumie include aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence, involuntary manslaughter, drug possession offenses and multiple summary traffic violations.Mumie was arraigned before District Magistrate James K. Reilly of Pottsville. Mumie was unable to post the was $100,000 straight cash bail set and was committed to the county prison in Pottsville.
