Lehighton wins in volleyball, soccer
Lehighton posted wins in both volleyball and girls soccer action Thursday.
VOLLEYBALLLehighton-TamaquaLehighton claimed a convincing 25-16, 25-18, 25-19 Schuylkill League win over Tamaqua.Katie Higgins led the Lady Indians (8-6) with 13 service points, 11 kills and eight assists. Alyssa Jordan contributed 10 service points, seven kills, three assists and four digs.Vanessa Solt paced the Lady Raiders with seven service points, nine digs and two aces, while Kaelyn Boran chipped in 10 assists, four service points and three aces.Catasauqua-NorthwesternNorthwestern swept Catasauqua 25-4, 25-6 and 25-7 in Colonial League play.Natcheli Gomes had a nice game for the Lady Tigers, notching six aces to go along with three kills. Emily Wentz led Northwestern with nine aces, while Abigail Monks had a team-high six kills.Panther Valley-LourdesPanther Valley swept Lourdes in a Schuylkill League match, 25-13, 25-15, 25-10.Kelsey Van Horn led the way for the Panthers with 14 assists and five kills.Jamey Mikovch and Jess Niese both had nine kills in the victory. Erin Evans contributed six service points, as Danielle Hudicka had a dozen assists.GIRLS SOCCERLehighton-Jim ThorpeLehighton was victorious in a Schuylkill League match over Jim Thorpe, 2-1.Allison Andrew of Lehighton scored both goals in the victory. Autumn Cope scored the Lady Olympian goal.Lehighton compiled 20 shots on goal en route to the league win.Stroudsburg-Pleasant Vy.Pleasant Valley and Stroudsburg tied in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference match, 1-1.Bria Bittiger scored the Stroudsburg goal. The Lady Mounties manafactured eight shots on goal.Abby Leach scored for the Lady Bears, thanks to a Jamie Masullo assist.Tamaqua-North SchuylkillTamaqua won convinvingly over Pine Grove in a Schuylkill League match, 10-0.Beth Kistler led the way for the Lady Raiders with a hat trick in the contest. Teammate Monica Shimko contributed two goals.Carly Sassaman had six saves in net for Tamaqua to help record the shutout.Wilson-PalmertonMonica Wood's hat trick helped Palmerton roll to an 8-0 Colonial League win over Wilson.The Blue Bombers, who scored all their goals in the first half, also received two from both Brianna Doherty and Jenna Blynn.Wood added two assists, as did Kendra Pekurny and Monica Wood. Elissa Plocinik contributed a goal and an assist while goalie Julia Paulinho finished with seven saves.BOYS SOCCERJim Thorpe-Notre DameJim Thorpe defeated Notre Dame-ES in a non-league match, 1-0.With just over one minute left in the contest, Andrew Rich scored the game-winner for the Olympians.Carter Rodriguez of Jim Thorpe had 10 saves during the victory. Jack Riodan of Notre Dame had nine saves.Tamaqua-Northern LehighNorthern Lehigh defeated Tamaqua in a non-league match, 4-3.The match was fairly even in terms of shots on goal, as Northern Lehigh had 12 to Tamqua's nine.Daniel Belfontie had two goals forthe Bulldogs while Andrew Tarafas and Nick Miller each added one.Josh Delp had two scores for the Raiders and Roberto Burrero had one.FIELD HOCKEYPen Argyl-NorthwesternLaura Zanette had a hat trick to lead Pen Argyl to a 6-1 Colonial League win over Northwestern.Dana Evans added a goal and an assist while McKenna Hunt finished with three assists.For the Tigers, Courtney Page scored her team's only goal.The Green Knights outshot Northwestern by a 19-3 margin.FOOTBALLMIDDLE SCHOOLNativity-TamaquaBrayden Knoblauch threw four touchdowns passes to lead Tamaqua to a 48-24 win over Nativity.Knoblauch finished 6-of-8 for 143 yards with all four of his TDs going to different receivers Billy Shilko, Mike Bonetsky, Nate Boyle and Nick Breiner.Breiner also rushed for 134 yards and two scores while Boyle ran for 104 yards and a touchdown.
