Supervisors hold moment of silence for trooper

The Kidder Township Board of Supervisors concluded their regular monthly meeting with a moment of silence in memory of Pennsylvania state trooper Cpl. Bryon Dickson, who had been laid to rest earlier in the day.

"I would like to ask everyone to take a moment of silence in memory of the state trooper and his family," supervisor Thomas Lafond said.Earlier in the meeting, Chairman Bob Lengle informed those present that the engineering firm ARRO, which they have hired to prepare a report on Lake Harmony, has made some progress and has already met with a number of groups in Lake Harmony."Anyone who would like to meet with ARRO to discuss their concerns regarding the lake should let us know," Lengle said.The issue regarding the blocked storm drains on North Lake Drive was raised again by a number of residents."I have a meeting this coming Wednesday with the individual responsible, and the work will be done immediately following that meeting," was the response from Lafond, who serves as township roadmaster.However, since South Lake Drive is owned by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, there continue to be concerns. Lengle assured residents that the township will put their concerns and requests to PennDOT in writing.In other business, the planning board has recommended and the board of supervisors has approved a motion to put out a request for proposal for a review of the current zoning and SALDO ordinances.The board also agreed to accept the resignation of part-time police officer David Baldicanas and passed a motion to hire officer Michael Chica of Bethlehem as his replacement. Chica was hired at a rate of $15.30 per hour.The board approved payment of the bills in the amount of $2,487. In addition, the township made its yearly Minimum Municipal Obligations to the police pension fund in the amount of $142,745 and the nonpolice pension fund in the amount of $7,933.The township is also accepting bids for renovations to the municipal building. The bids will be opened on Oct. 8.A 2015 budget workshop will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 9 at the municipal building.
