Pleasant Valley picks up 1st win

ALLENTOWN - After three weeks of facing some of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference's top teams, Pleasant Valley took full advantage of a week 4 matchup against one of the new league's lesser opponents.

The Bears went into J. Birney Crum Stadium Friday night and handed a 47-14 beating to Allen for their first win of the season."We've just got to go on a seven-game winning streak," said running back Austyn Borre. "Now we know what it's like to win. We just have to keep it going and go on from here and get used to the feeling."The Bears jumped out to a 40-0 lead over the first 20 minutes of the game. They started with an 82-yard touchdown pass from Brandon Kuehner to Kevin Cruz on the game's first play from scrimmage.Less than two minutes later, Eric Marbury took an Allen punt 49 yard to the end zone for a 14-0 lead with 10:02 still left on the first-quarter clock."My coach told me to follow one guy," said Marbury. "It was easy. It was all the blocking. I was follwing Tyson Calhoun, Antonio Santana and Garrett Fernbach. It was all them."The Bears went up 20-0 on a 16-yard Borre run. They went ahead 27-0 on a 6-yard Marbury scamper with 1:29 left in the first quarter.Kuehner ran in for a 3-yard score in the second quarter. Demetrius Green made it 40-0 with a 4-yard touchdown run that was set up by Cruz's blocked punt.Pleasant Valley blocked a pair of punts in the game. Green also blocked one deep in Allen territory. It was picked up by Matthew Sheehan and run for a 4-yard touchdown that capped the scoring at 47-14 with 1:25 left in the third quarter."We talked about winning all four phases of the game: offense, defense, special teams and the 12th man, our sideline," said Bears head coach Dave Pacchione. "From what I saw, we won all four phases, especially tunrovers-wise. If we can win all four phases we can be a great team."Allen fumbled the ball five times and the Bears came up with two of them, one of them resulted in a TD.Allen got its first touchdown late in the second quarter on a pass from Isaih Hinton-Gray to Felix Avvares. The Canaries cut the lead to 40-14 on a Hinton-Gray pass to Mlik Talib with 4:43 left in the third quarter.Talib ran for 86 yards in the game, but most came on one 60-yard run after Pleasant Valley had built it's big lead. Most of Allen's 212 yards of offense came after the Bears had a large lead. The Canaries had just one first down and 0 yards of offense on their first five possessions, which also included a lost fumble. After opening the season against Easton, Whitehall and Bethlehem Catholic, which were a combined 9-0 heading into this week, Pleasant Valley has seen the best the league has to offer."The nice thing is that we're battle-tested," said Pacchione. "When you've face Easton's offensive line, Beca's skill guys and [Whitehall running back Saquon] Barkley, you're battle-tested up front, in your secondary and on the outside."
