Become a volunteer ombudsman

Learn about becoming a volunteer ombudsman at an open house from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Monroe County Area Agency on Aging Office at 724 Phillips St. in Stroudsburg. Meet local ombudsmen and learn how they make a difference in the lives of residents of nursing and personal care homes.

A volunteer ombudsman receives training and is under the supervision of the county staff ombudsman.Volunteers advocate for those who are unable to do so for themselves. They visit with people who are lonely and listen to the stories, concerns and needs of residents who need to be heard. They educate residents about their right to ask for what they need and encourage residents to ask questions and speak up for themselves.
