Report: Frein spotted in Nesquehoning

Police were notified Tuesday afternoon of a suspected spotting in Nesquehoning of the man accused of killing a Pennsylvania state trooper.

Sean Smith, chief of police in Nesquehoning, confirmed that a man reportedly fitting the description of Eric Matthew Frein was seen in the Valero minimart at the intersection of routes 54 and 209 early in the afternoon.A clerk notified police that the man asked for information about camping in the area.Frein is reported to be a survivalist who enjoys the outdoors.Officer Tim Wuttke of the Nesquehoning Police Department went to the minimart and viewed surveillance footage, but was unable to make a determination of the identity of the man.Smith said state police at Lehighton barracks were immediately notified.He said the matter was turned over to the state police for further investigation.A dispatcher at the Lehighton barracks said this morning the troopers there were not investigating the incident.Smith said the clerk at the minimart did not know if the man left the store parking lot on foot or in a vehicle.
