A bear in a tree caused a stir Wednesday afternoon in a residential Lehighton neighborhood.

Residents at ThIrd and Alum streets spotted the bear about 3:30 p.m. today.

Residents estimate the bear weighs 250 to 300 pounds.

At times during the evening, 40 to 50 people gathered to get a look.

The bear came down on its own, got scared by the fire police or a camera flash and scampered back up the tree. After about 30 minutes the bear came back down and lumbered off.
