State police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks were summoned at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday to a store in the Fairlane Village Mall, Norwegian Township, to investigate a shoplifting case.

As a result of the incident, police charged James Withelder, 73, of Pottsville, with retail theft.Police said the incident happened at the Super Shoes store in the mall when the man concealed a black Carhartt hooded sweatshirt and attempted to leave the store without paying for it. Police said he passed all points of sale and was detained by employees.
