The Tamaqua Area High School Alumni Band will hold its annual gathering on Sept. 26 at the TAHS Homecoming game, when the Blue Raiders take on the Panther Valley Panthers. Former members of the TAHS Raider Band are welcome to join in for a fun night of music and memories.Anyone interested in participating may email

Please include your name, year of graduation and instrument you play.Healthy adultsDiakon Community Services will offer a free "Healthy Steps for Older Adults" Program for Tamaqua area residents. The two-part program is being offered to residents age 50 and older and will be held Sept. 25 and Oct. 1 at the Majestic House Apartment Complex, 201 E. Broad St.Participants should plan to attend both sessions, as they offer different helpful advice on ways to raise participants' knowledge of falls, introduce steps to reduce falls, and improve health and well-being. Provided by PrimeTime Health, the workshops, topics will be "You Can Prevent Falls" and "Staying Active."Pre-registration is required and may be made by calling, toll-free, 800-621-6325 or 570-624-3017. PrimeTime Health is part of Diakon Community Services and provided under contract with the Schuylkill County Office of Senior Services.Coffee 'N CreedThe Tamaqua Ministerium will sponsor a Coffee 'N Creed time of fellowship from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 23 at Vonz Restaurant at the Tamaqua Train Station.The event will provide an opportunity for free and open conversation on God, faith and church.The public is welcome to attend.St John XXIIIThe consolidation of SS. Peter and Paul and St. Jerome Catholic Churches in Tamaqua has led to a few changes in the Mass schedules at both churches, as well as a name change for St. Jerome's.Now known as the Parish of St. John XXIII, Masses will continue to be held at both churches.At St. John XXIII (former St. Jerome's), weekend Masses are held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays and at 11 a.m. on Sundays. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. on Saturdays.Masses at SS. Peter and Paul are held at 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on Sundays. The group is planning for its 100th anniversary celebration in 2015 and is looking for ideas.
