Fall clean up

The fall annual SKIP Clean Up is scheduled for Sept. 20. Interested volunteers should report to the M & T Bank parking lot at the Five Points intersection before 9 a.m. that day.Residents and business owners may lend a hand by cleaning their respective sidewalks and properties that day.Garbage bags, safety vests, gloves and complimentary beverages will be provided. Trash bags must then be placed beside a state highway for collection purposes. Trash may also be disposed of in a dumpster located at the rear of the Tamaqua Municipal Building, 320 E. Broad St.For more information, contact TBA President Kevin Steigerwalt at 570-668-1252 or 668-3444.Board of HealthThe Tamaqua Board of Health held its September meeting with James Gormley, Randy Gormley, Shirley Becker, health officer Judith Hadesty R.N. and code enforcement officer Matthew Meyers in attendance.Meyers reported the total number of health licenses issued so far this year is 62.Two applications were denied for non-compliance. A complaint concerning a restaurant in the borough was addressed and resolved by the owner.He also received and adjusted 12 complaints: three for animal waste; one building condemned as unfit for human habitation; and eight trash complaints. There were no cases of reportable diseases for the month.The board reminded residents that dog owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets.Violations should be reported to Tamaqua Borough Hall, 570-668-3444. Provide the place, date, time and name of the dog's owner. Citations will then be filed through the office of District Magistrate Stephen Bayer.St. Peter's UnionSunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. This Sunday's service will include a Harvest Home Festival, dedication of confirmands and a Joyous Noise Offering. Sunday school classes will be held at 10:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 11:30 a.m., Daisies, Brownies and Cub Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.Activities for next week include: Monday, church board meets at 6 p.m.; Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., Women of St. Peter's will meet at 7:30 p.m., deadline for newsletter information; Thursday, play practice at 6 p.m., cherub choir meets at 6:30 p.m., senior choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.The youth group will meet at 6 p.m. on Sept. 21.St. John LutheranThe Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. The service will include Holy Communion.
