A tractor-trailer driven by a Shippensburg man erupted into flames at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday on Interstate 81 in Frailey Township, Schuylkill County.
State police at the Frackville barracks said Frank L. Bishop, 27, was driving the 2010 Freightliner Cascadia northbound and was traveling through a temporary work zone when the fire started in the engine compartment of the vehicle. Police said the man pulled over to the right and parked the vehicle before jumping out of the cab right before the entire truck tractor burned.Police said a quick-thinking PennDOT crew that had been working in the construction zone saw the fire and responded to the truck with a water truck that was at the job site. The workers battled the fire until volunteers from the Donaldson Fire Company responded.
