Mother faces charges after hitting young son

Nicole Lynn, 30, of 245 E. Abbott St., Lansford, faces charges after hitting and kicking her young son, police say.

Police charged her with endangering the welfare of children, two counts of simple assault, false reports to law enforcement and harassment.According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Lansford officer Shawn Nunnemacher with District Judge Casimir Kosciolek, here's what happened:At 12:30 p.m. Aug. 8, Michael Moser came to the police station to report that he had gone to Lynn's house to pick up his son, but she refused to allow the boy to go and had screamed at the child and hit him.Nunnemacher went to the house, where Lynn said she had yelled at her son and had not let him go with his father, but denied having hit him.Police spoke with the boy, who had red marks on the bottom of his chin and fresh scratch marks on his neck. He said Lynn had grabbed him and smacked him in the face, then threw him on the ground and started kicking him.Lynn began yelling at the boy to stop him from talking to Nunnemacher. The boy told the officer he was afraid to go back into the house for fear of what Lynn would do to him because he had told police what happened.Nunnemacher took the boy with him and called the Carbon County Children and Youth Services Agency for direction. He was told to turn the child over to Moser.Nunnemacher returned to Lynn's house and told her that her son was with Moser. She became upset and admitted that she had hit him but was unable to hit his face because he had covered it.Later, Nunnemacher spoke with Lynn on the phone. She told him she had called Children and Youth about her son, and that caseworkers demanded he be returned to her.Nunnemacher called Children and Youth, and caseworkers said no one had told Lynn that.
