Two men charged with robbery

Two Lansford men are accused of assaulting another and stealing his cellphone and cash.

Charles L. Thatcher VII, 18, and Jose Perez, 26, both of 448 E. Bertsch St., are both charged with conspiracy, two counts of robbery, theft, and simple assault. They remain in Carbon County Correctional Facility under $50,000 percentage bail.According to an affidavit of probable cause filed with District Judge Casimir Kosciolek by borough officer Jason Helmer, here's what happened:At 5:20 p.m. Aug. 28, a man reported he had been assaulted and robbed at the intersection of Ridge and Center streets. Helmer saw the man's nose was bleeding, the side of his face was red, and there was blood on his clothes.The man told police he was walking on Ridge Street when he encountered the men, whom he knew. He said Thatcher held him down and took off his shoes while Perez repeatedly punched him. The men went through his pockets and took a $300 cellphone and $30 cash, then ran down Center Street.Police found Thatcher and Perez at 5:50 p.m. at their home. They were taken into custody and given their Miranda warnings. Both opted to not say anything.Police noticed Perez had blood on the back of his right hand.The woman who lives at the house allowed police to search it. They found the victim's cellphone hidden under shirts in a dresser drawer in Perez' room. A blue bandanna, which the victim reported Perez was wearing during the incident, was lying on the bed.
