Update-Remains belong to missing Coaldale man

Skeletal remains found Saturday evening in Coaldale belong to Corey Samuels, state police at Frackville reported Sunday.

Samuels, 24, of Coaldale, had been missing since January. According to police, two people walking near East Miner Street, in the western end of the borough, discovered the remains on Saturday.The Schuylkill County Coroner and a forensic anthropological team assisted in the investigation.Search dogs, firefighters and other volunteers canvassed an area, formerly mined by Lehigh Coal and Navigation, stretching across Coaldale, Lansford and Summit Hill, for days after Samuels' family reported him missing since Jan. 20.Police, at the time, said he suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder due to his time in the military.Samuels left the U.S. Marine Corps in 2012.He had last been seen in the woods with friends near Summit Hill.A cause of death has yet to be determined.
