Tree cutting equipment damaged in Schuylkill

An incident in a wooded area of Schuylkill County is being probed where about $15,000 in damages were reported to tree cutting equipment.

State police at Frackville said the incident occurred in a wooded area off Route 443, near the West Penn Township line, in East Brunswick Township.Troopers said the landowner, Ron Zimmerman, 79, of Tamaqua, employed Aquilla King, 41, of Spring Glen, Schuylkill County; Brian Mitchell, 60, of Elizabethville, and Michael Ryan, 49, of Berrysburg, both of Dauphin County, to fell trees on his property.Sometime between 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, and noon on Sunday, unknown criminals entered the property and damaged a crane truck owned by King by running the motor and punching a hole in the oil filter. That caused estimated damages of $10,000.They then took two skidder/tree pullers owned by Mitchell and Ryan and took them for joy rides down the side of a mountain trail, running both into trees and tipping them partway over. That caused an estimated $5,000 in damages.
