A Gilbert man altered the registration plate on his vehicle and will face criminal charges, according to Mahoning Township police.

Senand Sabovic was stopped for traveling 61 mph in a 35 zone on Aug. 8 along Route 209.Officers said the vehicle had no insurance and the registration plate, which did not belong to the vehicle, had been altered to appear as if it was current, when it had expired in 2012.Sabovic faces two counts of altered, forged or counterfeit documents and plates, exceeding maximum speed limits, failure to have required registration and certificate of title; failure to have required financial responsibility, and fraudulent use or removal of a registration plate.A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 1.
