Community meal

A free community meal will be served by St. John's United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave. from 5-6:30 p.m. Sept. 9.The menu will be pork chops, creamy potatoes, vegetable medley, and desserts.The meal is all about feeding people and reaching out to people who live alone and need the fellowship of dining with others; people who need a break from cooking all the time; or people who can't afford to eat out.No matter the reason, everyone is invited.Newspaper collectionThe newspaper drive by St. John's Church has been discontinued.Anyone wishing to dispose of papers may take them to the garage across from the church at 2915 Fireline Road, Palmerton. The garage is always open.They also accept shredded paper and cardboard, as well as the newspaper. No glass or Styrofoam please.Alateen support groupAlateen is a support group for teens of families struggling with alcohol.The group meets from 6:30-7:30 p.m. every Tuesday at Faith Alive Church, 678 Pine St., Palmerton/Bowmanstown.Adult Al-Anon and AA Meetings are held at the same time.For more information, call 570-730-8601.
