Tempers cool as project nears end

The anticipated opening of the Thomas J. McCall Memorial Bridge on Friday is calming tempers and bringing far fewer complaints to Weissport Borough officials.

Only one complaint was heard on Monday night concerning issues with bridge construction from Weissport residents.Lynette Moyer of White Street said that bridge construction workers are removing the foam from underneath the bridge and have put the material in piles, but not in trash bags, so the foam pieces are being blown around."It's all over," Moyer said. She said the foam pieces are not just near her home, but throughout the area near the bridge.Weissport Council also discussed the police officer.Brenda Leiby, council member, said the officer has not put in a shift for a few weeks."We're wondering if he changed his mind about working for us," Leiby said.Council members advised the township secretary Jillyan Sterling to contact the police officer to find out if he is still interested in the position.Gene Kershner, council president, said garbage revenues and tax revenues have been collected by the tax collector. He said the borough has received $31,723 in solid waste revenues and $49,685 in tax money.Council plans to start working on a 2015 budget in October.
