Vehicle stops lead to arrests by state police
Several vehicle stops by state police at Lehighton led to the arrest of drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or controlled substances.
On Aug. 26 at 7:50 p.m. Anthony James Gardo, 19, of Northampton, was stopped along Route 248 eastbound near the Palmerton exit in Lower Towamensing Township, for a traffic violation. He was found to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Drug charges are pending.At 9:44 p.m. on Aug. 26, a 16-year-old male from Palmerton was observed with an equipment violation at Delaware Avenue and Seventh Street in Palmerton. During the vehicle stop, troopers said the teen showed signs of intoxication and was taken to the Palmerton hospital for a blood test. A DUI charge is pending the test results.At 9:49 p.m. on Aug. 26 Richard Henry Jones, 52, of Saylorsburg, was stopped along Greenview Drive at Neola Road, in Hamilton Township, Monroe County, for a traffic violation. After further investigation Jones was arrested for DUI of a controlled substance, drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to the county DUI center for a blood test. Charges will be filed.At 12:07 a.m. on Friday, troopers stopped Robert A. Banning, 19, of Kunkletown, along McIlaney Road, north of Greenview Drive in Chestnuthill Township. He was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested and taken to the county DUI center for a blood test. Charges are pending the test results.At 9:03 a.m. on Saturday troopers stopped Monica B. Russup, 48, of Tamaqua, along Route 248 at the Parryville exit in the borough for an equipment violation. She was found to be under the influence of a suspected controlled substance and taken to the Palmerton hospital for a blood test. Charges will be filed.At 4:30 p.m. on Saturday Joshua Pensyl, 27, of Jim Thorpe, was stopped at the intersection of routes 443 and 209 in Lehighton for a traffic violation. He was found to be under the influence of alcohol and taken to the Lehighton hospital for a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test results.At 8:47 p.m. on Sunday, Michael Albert Kearney, 18, of East Stroudsburg, was stopped for a traffic violation along Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township. He was arrested for suspicion of DUI of a controlled substance. He was transported to the county DUI center for a blood test. Charges will be filed.At 11:06 p.m. on Sunday, Andrew Vega, 25, of Wilkes-Barre, was stopped along the turnpike in Kidder Township for speeding. He was found to be under the influence of marijuana. Charges will be filed.
