Traffic stops lead to six DUI arrests

State police at the Lehighton barracks said six traffic stops have resulted in people being arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Four of the offenses took place on Tuesday, and the other two happened on Friday.

The first incident on Tuesday happened at 7:37 p.m. at the intersection of Old Stagecoach and Gilbert roads in Polk Township. Police said Matthew Lee Frantz, 33, of Kunkletown, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs after he was initially stopped for an equipment violation.The second arrest came after police stopped Anthony James Gardo, 19, of Northampton, at 7:50 p.m. in the area of Route 248 eastbound near the Palmerton Exit in Lower Towamensing Township.Police said he was stopped for a traffic violation, after which time he was found to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.At 9:44 the same night, police stopped a 16-year-old Palmerton boy at the intersection of Delaware and Seventh streets in Palmerton for an equipment violation. That stop resulted in the juvenile showing signs of intoxication. He was taken to the Palmerton Hospital for a blood test. Police said a juvenile petition will be filed, pending the result of the blood test.The fourth arrest on Tuesday came after police stopped Richard Henry Jones, 52, of Saylorsburg for a moving violation at 9:49 p.m. at the intersection of Greenview Drive and Neola Road in Hamilton Township.Police said he was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs, drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to the Monroe County DUI Center for a blood test.The first of the offenses on Friday happened at 2:37 a.m. in the area of Second and Iron streets in Lehighton.Police said a 35-year-old man from Lehighton was operating a 1995 Buick sedan when he was stopped for a motor vehicle code violation, after which time police learned he was driving under the influence and took him into custody. Police did not reveal the man's name.The second incident on that date happened at 11:20 p.m. in the area of Franklin Avenue and Fifth Street.Pollice said a 30-year-old man from Effort was driving a 1998 Honda Accord that was stopped for a motor vehicle code violation. Police said the man was driving under the influence of a controlled substance and was in possession of a controlled substance. Police did not reveal his name.
