A Tamaqua man says he was just driving his newly purchased car home; however, he doesn't have a valid driver's license, the title was not transferred properly, the vehicle was not insured and the license plate was registered to an entirely different car.
A Tamaqua police officer was on patrol at 10:31 a.m. Monday when he saw Marc Joseph Tita, 33, of 225 Pine St., driving a silver Volkswagen south on Railroad Street. The officer knew Tita's driver's license was suspended, so he initiated a traffic stop.Tita got out of his VW and approached the officer, then began cursing loudly when told to go back to his car. He then told the officer about purchasing the car and using a license plate he borrowed from a nephew to drive it home. He did have a bill of sale and the title.A records check determined the plate was registered to an Acura and that the title of the VW had not been transferred.Tita was charged with disorderly conduct, driving with a suspended license, unauthorized use of a registration, driving an uninsured vehicle and driving an unregistered vehicle. The car was towed and the license plate was sent to PennDOT.
