State police at Fern Ridge are investigating a rape reported Sunday night in the West End Fair parking lot in Monroe County.

The fair opened Sunday and continues through Saturday.A 22-year-old female told police she was raped between 10 and 10:30 p.m. Police did not list any suspects.Monroe County Sheriff Todd A. Martin said although the fair provides portable generator-powered lights in the parking lots, "I would say absolutely positively there are dark spots and areas where the lights may not illuminate."His armed deputies patrol the fairgrounds, but only inside, under an agreement with the county commissioners. Outside, including the parking lots, is under state police jurisdiction.The fair has its own security staff on duty at night, and at the gates and in the parking areas, Martin said.West End Fair vice president Tom Hodgdon would say only that state police are investigating the report, and that the parking lot, which runs the length of the fair in sections, is lighted.Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call police at 570-646-2271.Chris Parker
