A Monroe Countyresident was one of two people who were victims of an assault in Luzerne County.
State police at Hazleton said Jose Luis Hernandez, 37, of Hazle Township, has been charged with multiple counts as the result of an incident on Thursday, at 7:57 p.m. in Hazle Township.Troopers said Hernandez engaged in a heated verbal argument with Ralph H. Schultz, 63, of Blakeslee, and Jennifer Luna, 34, of Hazle Township, outside his residence at 160 Patchtown Road. Troopers did not indicate what the argument was over.Hernandez then repeatedly struck the 2013 Chevrolet Cruz owned by Schultz with a hammer, causing damage to the exterior and interior of the vehicle.He then repeatedly struck the 2003 Hyundai Sonata of Luna, while Luna was inside, causing damage to the exterior of the vehicle.Hernandez then chased Schultz with the hammer and fled the scene. He later returned to the scene and was arrested, troopers said.Hernandez was charged with aggravated and simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, harassment, criminal mischief, and disorderly conduct.He was lodged in the county prison in Wilkes-Barre, troopers said, failing to post bail.
