JIM THORPE

Head coach - Norb Lienhard (19th season)Assistant coach - Janet Farra (6th season)District 11 class - AALeague - IndependentLast year's record - 8-8Key losses - Bryanna Kehrli (No. 2 singles), Haley Cope (No. 3 singles), Maria Donati (No. 1 doubles), Minke Phieffer (No. 1 doubles), Rudy Jackson, Thirzita Buell, Jamie Hartmann.Key returnees - Gabbie Binder (Sr., No. 1 singles), Hope Damian (Jr., No. 2 doubles), Emily Layden (Jr., No. 2 doubles), Jessica Laurer (So.), Lauren Hill (So.).Others to watch - Marni Quevedo (So.), Ellana Adames (So.), Brittani Ward (Sr.).Outlook - It will take time for the Lady Olympians to get accustomed to playing at the varsity level since most of the team only played exhibition matches last year. Losing Kehrli and Cope, last year's No. 2 and 3 singles' players, respectively, will be tough to overcome. But the return of Kehrli, last year's top singles' player, should help offset those losses. Jim Thorpe should also benefit from having its second doubles' pair of Damian and Layden returning as juniors.Quotable - "I expect us to be competitive in our matches as the season goes along," Head coach Norb Lienhard.PLEASANT VALLEYHead coach - Mark Allison (20th season)Assistant coach - Ralph Weichand (9th season)District 11 class - AAALeague - Eastern Pennsylvania ConferenceLast year's record - 12-5 overall, 6-4 MVCKey losses - Emily Borger, Andrea Nale, Ashley Coleman, Emily Thek, Mackenzie Caffrey, Sarina Tufano.Key returnees - Paola Mieles (Sr.), Kara Urland (Sr.), Madison Olexson (Sr.), Amanda Hoag (Sr.), Monica Jarog (Sr.).Others to watch - Cassandra Snook (Sr.), Devin Kegel (Jr.).Outlook - After last year's historic season, Pleasant Valley will be looking for more in its first year of play in the EPC. The Lady Bears rewrote the record books in 2013, becoming the first team to win a Mountain Valley Conference tennis title, which was followed by the school's first-ever trip to the District 11 team tournament. Despite losing a 14-match winner in No. 2 singles' player Thek, Pleasant Valley should still be strong with two-time defending Times News Tennis Player of the Year Olexson returning at the top of the order. The Lady Bears should also benefit from the healthy return of Urland, who missed the end of last season with a devastating shoulder injury.Quotable - "I think we'll be very competitive in the league (EPC). We played seven East Penn Conference teams (last year) and won six-out-of-seven. I expect us to do well against those teams, especially now that they're in our league. We're anxious to get going," Head coach Mark Allison.TAMAQUAHead coach - Jennel Yelito (5th season)Assistant coach - noneDistrict 11 class - AALeague - IndependentLast year's record - 7-9 overallKey losses - Sarah Zoba, Carly FenstermacherKey returnees - Maddie Dolinsky (Sr), Beth Kistler (Sr)Others to watch - Maddie Davis (Jr), Allison Pedersen (Jr), Amy Gardiner (Jr)Outlook - This is the first season for Coach Yelito that she has no newcomers to the roster. However, there will be 10 players that return to the squad, including four returning varsity players with experience, so things are looking up for the Lady Raiders. Yelito is hoping that the girls learn to work together in the early-going and solidify their positions quickly, so that they can become more confident with their role on the team.Quotable - "After talking with the girls, we're hoping to have a winning season this year and qualify for team districts. We know what we did last year, and we would like to improve upon that and I believe we are capable of achieving it," Head coach Jennel Yelito.
