Two admit to drunken driving

Two defendants in pending driving under the influence cases entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court on Thursday and were immediately sentenced by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

Saul Tapia Ortiz, 27, of Avondale, Chester County, was arrested on Feb. 7 along Main Road, in Franklin Township, by state police at Lehighton, following a vehicle stop. Given a test, the result showed the presence of a controlled substance. Ortiz also pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana and a summary count of driving without a valid license.On the DUI charge, Nanovic sentenced him to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and get a drug and alcohol evaluation. On the possession count he was fined $250, and on the license charge he was fined $200.He began the jail term immediately.John Joseph Lynn III, 33, of Lehighton, was arrested on Feb. 18 along Canal Street in Weissport by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result was 0.11 BAC.A first offense for sentencing, Nanovic placed him on probation for six months and ordered he pay a fine of $300 and get a D&A evaluation.Each defendant must also pay court costs, which average close to $1,500, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
