Supervisors say fire company's equipment is insured

Fire Chief Wayne Knirnschild attended the Aug. 7 meeting of the Towamensing Township supervisors to ask about a statement in a July story in the Times News about donated equipment that will not be insured until it is known whether or not someone was trained to use it.

Supervisor Tom Newman said, "We don't want to insure it until we know you are using it."Supervisor Guy Seifert said everything was insured.Knirnschild said the only thing not being used is a 14-foot rubber raft for which a 12 horsepower or larger engine is needed. He was told that would be added to the insurance when it is usable.Knirnschild also asked if the yard sale ordinance is being enforced. Seifert said it is and that potential customers at yard sales are parking too close to intersections. Parking in the right of way creates safety issues.Supervisor Penny Kleintop said she has received multiple complaints about parking at yard sales. The ordinance permits a person to hold three yard sales a year and that they have to be registered. A permit with a fee is not needed, just registration at the township office.Falling Creek Investments had 25 outstanding issues at the state police barracks in July and has fixed 13 of them. The other 12 are considered minor and can be covered by providing an as-built plan. No occupancy permit will be issued until all conditions are met.Knirnschild said the septic field at the barracks is not working and the material is running down the gutter along Sei Pike Road.Zoning officer Carl Faust will check and call the sewage enforcement officer if trouble is found. The new employee policy manual was approved. Employees have seen and approved the changes.Livengood Excavators asked that the bid for paving that he was awarded be rescinded. The second low bidder was Lehigh Asphalt, which requested an extension of the completion date because of its late start. The deck panels for Owl Creek Bridge are in, and the bridge is expected to be completed soon.It was announced that roadmaster Scott Mosier's daughter won with her pig entry at the Carbon County Fair.
