A man currently on probation has been charged with simple assault during an incident that occurred at a Monroe County gas station over the weekend.

State police at Lehighton said Fred Baumgartner, 33, assaulted a 50-year-old female from Polk Township at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Turkey Hill Mini Market in Chestnuthill Township.At that time, state police said Baumgartner bit the victim in the face and choked her. He then took the victim's vehicle and fled the scene.
