An 8-year-old boy suffered moderate injuries when a bicycle he was riding was struck by a car at 1:19 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Maple and Chestnut streets in Norwegian Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks said the boy suffered multiple cuts and abrasions to his left arm and leg and was transported to the Pottsville Hospital South, Pottsville, in the Pottsville EMS ambulance.Police said he was one of four juvenile males who were traversing the intersection when Russel Kosta, 79, of Pottsville, driving a 2010 Toyota Avalon, failed to observe the victim.Police said the Avalon's front end struck the right side of the victim's Hot Wheels Speed Demon bicycle, at which time the boy fell onto the macadam and was dragged under the Avalon for about 5 feet.
